A Message from Fred Banks, Oregon's New AAU Boys' Basketball Director

I want to say how much I look forward to being the new AAU Director of Boys' Basketball for the state of Oregon.  I have currently run the boys AAU State Championships for 1st through 6th grades for the past nine years.  I have run Super Regional tournaments in Salem, Oregon, and Las Vegas, NV, over the same time period.  If you have been to the tournaments I host, you should have noticed that many of the teams participating were some of the best in the state.  Also, you may have noticed that out-of-town and out-of-state teams participate in these tournaments.  Playing teams from different areas only helps your team improve.  It offers more excitement to the game, plus offers different style of play than what your team is accustomed to locally.  High school officials call the games, so the call consistency coincides with the AAU/high school rules.

Look for tournaments in the Portland, Salem, Eugene areas as well as in Medford and Bend.  School teams and Select teams will each have divisions.  My hope is that Oregon will continue to send teams to the National AAU tournaments with good, strong representation.

Please feel free if you would like to host an AAU tournament.  I would love to help you and see all the benefits that AAU brings to the state of Oregon and boys basketball.
